To choose oral dissolvable strips, read the label, not the front of the box: look for the exact amount of every active ingredient in one strip, a film made from pullulan, a dissolve time measured in seconds, no added sugar, manufacturing in a certified facility with independent lab testing, each strip sealed in its own foil sachet and clear instructions on when to take it. Then look at the range. The best oral strips are the ones that match the moment you need them, and Smart Strips is the only oral strip brand with a complete functional range, from training and focus to sleep, immunity and longevity.
What are oral dissolvable strips?
An oral dissolvable strip is a supplement in the form of a thin film, about the size of a stamp. You place it on your tongue and it dissolves on contact with saliva, with no water and nothing to swallow. A review of oral strip technology describes exactly this: a film that disintegrates in the mouth within seconds and needs no water [1].
Supplement strips now cover vitamins, botanicals, amino acids and nootropics, so two boxes that look alike on a shelf can be very different products. Smart Strips uses its QuickRelease™ film for every formula, and the format delivers up to 95% bioavailability, up to 4x faster absorption and up to 30% higher effectiveness than a swallowed tablet, capsule or powder. How that works is explained on our science page, and the basics are in what oral dissolvable strips are. The label checklist at a glance
| What to check | What a good label shows | Smart Strips |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Active ingredients | The amount of each one, per strip | Every ingredient in mg or µg per strip |
| 2. Film base | A food-grade film former such as pullulan | Pullulan film |
| 3. Dissolve time | Seconds, with no water | 7 to 30 seconds |
| 4. Sugar and sweeteners | Sugar free, sweetener named | Sugar free, sweetened with stevia |
| 5. Manufacturing and testing | Certified facility, independent lab | Made in the USA, FDA registered, cGMP certified facility certified to NSF/ANSI 455-2, ISO 17025 accredited labs |
| 6. Packaging | Each strip sealed on its own | Single-use foil sachet for every strip |
| 7. How and when to take it | A specific moment, not only "as needed" | Suggested use on every box |
| 8. Range | Formulas for different moments of the day | Ten formulas, from morning training to sleep |
1. How much of each active ingredient is in one strip?
This is the first number to find. A good label lists every active ingredient with its own amount in milligrams or micrograms, for a single strip.
Watch for the words "proprietary blend". Under US labeling rules, when ingredients are grouped as a proprietary blend, only the total amount of the blend needs to be stated, with the ingredients listed in order of weight [2]. You learn what is inside, not how much of each. In the EU, food supplement labels have to declare the amount of each nutrient or substance with a nutritional or physiological effect in numbers, per recommended daily portion [3].
Every Smart Strips label gives the full breakdown. One Focus strip, for example, contains 20 mg Alpha-GPC, 20 mg caffeine, 10 mg L-theanine, 10 mg citicoline and 5 mg phosphatidylserine. You can compare it with anything else you take, and your doctor can see exactly what is in it.
2. What is the film made of?
The film is the delivery system, so its base matters. Look for pullulan or another food-grade film former near the top of the "other ingredients" list.
Pullulan is a polysaccharide made by fermenting starch with the fungus Aureobasidium pullulans. In the EU it is an authorised food additive (E 1204), and in its 2025 re-evaluation the European Food Safety Authority concluded that there is no safety concern at the reported uses and use levels [4]. It forms a thin, clear film that dissolves quickly in the mouth. Smart Strips films are made with pullulan, and every formula is gluten free.
3. How fast does it dissolve?
A strip should disappear in seconds. The review mentioned above puts the target disintegration time for a fast dissolving film at 5 to 30 seconds [1].
A Smart Strips strip dissolves in 7 to 30 seconds. Place it on your tongue, press it lightly against the roof of your mouth and keep going with your morning: it is gone before you have reached the door. If swallowing pills is the reason you are looking at strips in the first place, read hate swallowing pills.
4. Is there sugar in it?
You may take a strip right after brushing your teeth. Check the "other ingredients" line for sugar and look for the sweetener by name.
All ten Smart Strips formulas are sugar free and sweetened with stevia, with natural flavors such as mint, mixed berries, mango and pineapple, or watermelon and lime.
5. Where is it made, and who tests it?
The number on a label is only useful if it matches the product. Two things protect you: how it is made, and whether someone outside the company checks it.
In the US, the FDA's current good manufacturing practice rule for dietary supplements, issued in 2007, requires activities that ensure the identity, purity, quality, strength and composition of a supplement [5]. NSF/ANSI 455-2 is an audited GMP standard for dietary supplements, covering regulatory requirements, retailer quality requirements and industry best practice [6]. ISO/IEC 17025 sets out requirements for the competence, impartiality and consistent operation of testing laboratories [7].
When scientists measured the melatonin in a range of supplements of different brands and forms, the content ranged from 83% less to 478% more than the label stated, and more than 71% of the products were not within 10% of their label claim [8].
Smart Strips are made in the USA, in an FDA registered, cGMP certified facility certified to NSF/ANSI 455-2. Every formula is tested by independent ISO 17025 accredited laboratories.
6. Is each strip packed on its own?
Thin films are extremely sensitive to moisture in the air [1]. Strips can be packed one per pouch or several to a container [1], and a single pouch keeps each film protected until you open it.
Every Smart Strips strip comes in its own single-use foil sachet, a flat pack about the size of a business card. You can keep a few in a jacket pocket, a gym bag or a laptop sleeve. More on taking them on the road in how to take supplements without water.
7. Does the label tell you how and when to take it?
"Take one daily" is a start. A good label tells you when: before training, after it, before a demanding task, before sleep.
Every Smart Strips box gives a specific moment. Refuel is one strip after a workout. Z-z-Zen is one strip 20 to 30 minutes before sleep, and how to read a sleep strip label in more detail is in our guide to sleep strips. For the general principles, see when to take supplements.
8. One product, or a range for the whole day?
Many people start with a single strip for one need, often energy or sleep. A range in one format means one habit and one standard of manufacturing and testing behind every formula you take.
Smart Strips is the only oral strip brand with a complete functional range: training, recovery, focus, stress, sleep, immunity, longevity, beauty, the morning after a party and intimacy.

A word on safety
Read the warnings as carefully as the ingredients. FCKN Fit and Focus contain caffeine (20 mg per strip). Z-z-Zen contains melatonin and may cause drowsiness, so do not drive after use. Beauté contains fish. Smart Strips are not for children or for pregnant or nursing women. If you take medication or have a medical condition, speak to your doctor before taking any supplement.
